How does Barre work?
Barre offers an integrated workout combining the fat-burning properties of interval training with muscle-shaping isometrics to reshape the body. This low-impact,one-hour timed workout to music targets all the major muscle groups and improves posture. What you get: a classic barre body – with sculpted arms, flat abs, a lifted seat and elongated thighs.
Will barre help me lose weight?
Yes! The classes alternate between deep stretches and exercises that demand intense bursts of energy. This format produces both high caloric burn and firmer muscle mass. Most students who do barre classes regularly become slimmer and lighter, sometimes within months.
How is barre different from Pilates?
Pilates uses machines to re-align the core muscles by working the small muscle groups. Barre is an extension of Pilates principles using one’s own body weight to isolate, strengthen and sculpt all major muscle groups. A majority of Pilates exercises are done supine or sitting. Barre exercises take place standing, supine and at the ballet barre.
How often should I do the barre workout?
Research shows that exercises yield the best benefits when performed three to five times per week. To get the best results from any exercise including barre, come to class three to five times per week.
What do you do in a barre workout?
Barre is a one-hour, timed total body workout to music. We start off with a warm-up, doing heart-rate raising exercises, and move on to intense leg and seat work at the barre, then abdominal work at the barre and on mats. Every exercise includes active stretching and is followed by additional stretching to elongate the muscles just worked.
